First State Bank Appoints Kelley as Chairman
First State Bank, chartered in Waynesboro, Miss., has elected Thomas “Tommy” O. Kelley Jr. as chairman of the board for First State Corporation.
"The timing is right to expand our leadership capabilities as we prepare for long-term success,” said Jeffrey B. Lacey, CEO and president of First State Bank. “Tommy’s expertise and guidance as a board member have been crucial to our organization. We are strategically preparing for future growth and revamping our board structure to navigate the current financial climate in the banking sector.”
Kelley has served on the First State Bank board of directors since 2003. Recently, he retired from a 45-year tenure at Kelley Companies in Waynesboro, where his experience in management and community engagement has made him a trusted voice in the Pine Belt business community. “It’s an honor to serve as chairman of the board for such a respected organization and represent the shareholders, employees and needs of the community,” said Kelley.
In 2024, First State Bank expanded to Gluckstadt, Miss., opening a full-service branch to serve the growing Madison County market. This expansion, along with key leadership appointments in the past year, reflects the bank’s commitment to serving the evolving needs of communities across Mississippi. Kelley’s appointment as chairman follows these changes as the organization continues to innovate its customer experiences.
“In a digital age, people still want to know if they can trust an organization,” Kelley said. “We want to build relationships, not just transactions. As we remain committed to being a strong local community bank, our team is expanding its efforts to invest more fully in the communities we serve by being a trusted partner, friend and guide. Ultimately, we’re invested in serving and knowing people.”
Founded in 1934, First State Bank has been committed to meeting the financial needs of area individuals and businesses, all while providing dedicated customer service.
